Alberta Canada reveals a new driver’s license/ID card design

ALBERTA – The province has unveiled a redesigned driver’s license with updated security features.

The new card will be phased in as people replace their old licenses. The design shows Castle Mountain and the Bow River through Banff National Park. The redesigned identification card (for non-drivers) depicts a wild rose, Alberta’s provincial flower.

In a news release, Service Alberta minister Stephanie McLean said the new cards are the first in North America to incorporate certain security features into their design, to deter identity theft and fraud.

“Our government takes identity fraud very seriously,” she said. “We are using the latest technology available to safeguard people’s personal information and prevent scams.”
